Got going at 6am and K ad to go to Nuweiba to get my my traffic fine clearance certificate. Only took an hour to get there and the court was closed, public holiday. I ccould not believe it but the guard said he would phone at ten am and maybe the guy will come down and help me. I left at 2pm up to Taba where I cleared cistoms and gave the Egyptians my license and number plate back and had to pay $10 for them to stamp my CDP and I was out of there.
Crossed into Israel at 6pm and was real quick and easy, they asked me a bunch of questions because I had been to Arab countries and then x-rayed all my stuff including my spare tyre and they gave me a litre of water which hit the spot and in ten minutes I was through. Then I had to get insurance and that took an hour and a half, the computer was screwing up or something, costs $15 a day for the bike and myself. By now it was close to 9pm and had no place to go to so camped on the beach one kilometre from the border, didn't even pitch my tent. Another 15 hour day.
DAY 127 18-4-23 DEAD SEA.
Another 6 am start, was a beautiful sunrise and camp spot and wanted to get going to avoid the heat.
Followed the route above which was through the desert up to the Dead Sea and stopped at Leonardo Club Hotel and joined in and had the craziest swim. You can sit in the water and your knees stick out and your guy is out of the water, when you lay on your back two thirds of you are out of the water, then I dipped my head in, was that a mistake or what, my eyes pained with the salt, migjt as well just rubbed salt into my eyes ,would have been less painful. As I was walking out they were warning people don't put your head under the water, I'm sure I would have still done it , especially when they tell you not to do it.
Had a nice shower and went back to my bike and had to gear up again in the 35*C heat and headed to Masad. Took the gondola up and walked around the ruins and it was even hotter by now. Got to the buke and changed again into all my riding gear and headed up the coastline at 1200ft below sea level.
Camped at Mitspe Shalem and met Rikka from Denmark there who is riding her bicyle and has been on the road for five years, walking and backpacking around the world and is heading to Cape Town , so will host her if she calls.
DAY 128 19-4-23 TO ELI'S HOUSE NEAR TEL AVIV. 270km.
Wished Rikka well and then went up the mountain to Metsoke Dragot and had some yogurt and granola and a Cuppuciano, felt good to have some decent food for once with a beautiful view overlooking the lake.
I took the dirt road which was a fun one to say the least, and passed by a Bedouin camp and a baby Camel on the road, in the middle of nowhere and ended up coming out in some Palestinian settlement where Israeli's are not allowed to go.
Price in Egypt for a litre was 30 cents and here it is a $1.10 a litre.
Went to Jericho where Jesus was baptized in the Jordan river, but missed it so continued on to ST George's Monastery but the army had closed the road. Then I headed up to Eli's house through Jerusalem, ended up in Ramallah ,turned back and then into an army base and they do not like that one bit, shit is real here and they don't mess around.
Finally got to Eli's house and we had a braai with some friends, Brian and Sharon and it was a great feast and finally had a beer after six or eigjt weekss.
DAY 129 TOUR WITH BRIAN AAND CULTURAL MUSLIM RAMADAN TOUR.
Brian was kind enough to show me around the area and visited his garage where the guys fixed up my windscreen again and gave it a good wash.
Then we visited Kfar Sulman up north and was hosted by Zoabi Family where we learnt about the Muslims rituals at the Mosque and then went to the Zoabi's beautiful home for an Iftar meal and celebrated the end of Ramadan. The spread was amazing and lots of food and desert, most interesting cultural tour.
DAY 130 + 27 = 157 DAYS TOTAL SO FAR.
21-4-23.
TOUR WITH THE Honda Aftican Twin Club around Jerusalem.
That saves me trying to explain where we went.
