LAKE ALBERT TO MURCHISON FALLS
After last night's storm and having half the night in the chalet ,I packed up my tent and and thanked the staff for their concern and kindness and set off to Muchison Falls.
The road is all tar now except for a short stretch. Camped at Red Chili Campsite. Did the boat safari and saw some huge crocs, giraffes, Hippos and many colourful birds. It takes you up to the falls, 17km up the Victoria Nile where the water plunges down 43m and is only 7m wide at a rate of 300 cubic meters per second.
Three miles down from the falls is where in 1954 Ernest Hemingway survived a plane crash and the following day his plane crashed again by Lake Albert on take off and him and his wife survived that as well, but then only to commit suicide years later.
Met some guys fishing, as you can see by the picture he has a Perch and they were staying where I was and the day before he caught a 103kg Perch, the pictures were unbelievable, two Dutchies who had come to fish for five days, they were so happy to pay $500 a day.
After the boat cruise ($32) I did a little safari drive only to drop the bike at a muddy patch and now the windshield bracket has broken in two places and is now flopping in the wind and the instrument panels is also attached to it. With all the speed bumps they have here it just shakes the bike senseless, every village has five sets of speed bumps, drives you nuts. Used some cable ties to secure it best I can till Nairobi.
